ISAF French troops inaugurate bridge in Kalakan

KABUL, Afghanistan (Jun 4) – ISAF troops, alongside the Governor of Kalakan, Mohammed Zarif, and the police district chief, inaugurated a new foot bridge 30 kilometers north of Kabul on May 31.

Construction began in April at the request of the local Malek of Kalakan after two children drowned in the river during a winter flood. The infrastructure was funded and constructed by the civil affairs team of the French Battle Group operating in Kabul within the Regional Command Capital.

ISAF French Task Force commander, Colonel De Cevins, and Governor Zarif cut the ribbon as grateful village inhabitants eagerly anticipated the opening of the bridge. The governor expressed his gratitude during a speech and invited the ISAF soldiers to have a traditional Afghan lunch.
