A REFUGEE
This poem was written in Pashto by Dr. Farouq Azam
Translated into English by Safdar Ali Toru
Merely fools would contempt migrants seeking refuge from the misery
They may stand among the elite despite how they look feeble and weary
Mohammad, Joseph and Moses, all were forced to migrate
In spreading the word of truth, how they suffered and agitate
Rumi*, Einstein* and Afghani*, renowned for their rationale and humane
Were to be amongst the refugees at the peak of their fame
True, they came with no wealth, cultivated gardens or palaces
Nevertheless, they brought fertile minds and intellects determined for solaces
